Woman Who Didn’t Want To Be ‘Fat Bridesmaid’ Sheds 8st On This Diet
WANT to lose weight? Find out how this young woman dropped 8st.
Before her weight loss journey, Kirsty Turnbull, from Edinburgh, tipped the scales at 17st 1.5lbs. The 24-year-old has always been overweight and had been attempting to lose weight since she was 13.
She decided it was enough when she saw a picture of herself wearing a dress at her best friend’s engagement party.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Kirsty has revealed how Slimming World helped her to drop 8st.
Kirsty said: “There were two key moments for me starting my weight loss journey and joining Slimming World in June 2017.
“The first was my best friend asking me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding in 2020. At her engagement party in February 2017, we all took a picture together.
“After seeing the picture I knew that I couldn’t look like that in her wedding photos. It was also very striking to see just how big I had become. That image was a real motivator for me throughout my journey. I didn’t want to be ‘the fat bridesmaid’ and I knew that I had to do something to improve my health.
“The second moment was my mum asking me at the end of May 2017 if I wanted to join Slimming World with her. It was the push I needed and so we started the journey together.
“She herself has lost seven and a half stone, and is less than 30lbs from her target. By the time she reaches it, we will have lost around 16 and a half stone between us (which is almost how much I weighed when I started).”
Before Slimming World, Kirsty had tried other diet plans – but nothing ever worked and she found them difficult to follow.
Since starting the group’s Food Optimising eating plan, Kirsty has increased her activity levels.
She added: “I had been running for a while, using the Couch to 5K app.
“It was a great way to get some fitness in, but I found it hard to get back into when I came back from Florida in May 2018. I did however increase my walking.
“I was very much sedentary before joining Slimming World, but definitely feel fitter after losing the weight.
“Even just getting in 10,000 steps a day by walking has had an impact for me and definitely helped the closer I got to target. The more active I was in a week, that little bit more I lost.”
Kirsty – who now weighs 9st 12.5lbs – went from a UK size 18 to a svelte 10.
“My lifestyle and outlook has completely changed and I feel like I have a much better relationship with food,” she added.
And when it comes to her diet, Kirsty hasn’t cut anything from her diet.
She concluded: “I just tried to make wise choices. Less takeaways and processed foods, more fruit and veg.
“I still managed the occasional chocolate bar, cake and even meals out, and just ensuring I filled up on healthy foods like veg too.
“Snack-sized chocolate bars were my saviour throughout the journey.”
